Anti-Mexican racism has played a significant and occasionally amusing role in this year’s election cycle. And as a bemused Mexican-American gaping from the sidelines, I was happy to get tagged into the game by El Planeta, the largest-circulating Spanish-language newspaper in Boston, and member of the Phoenix Media family. I was asked to draw an illo to be incorporated into the cover, pushing a Latino voting initiative. The story is in Spanish.

The concept came from Editorial, and the design and layout are the work of Jhosmer Hernandez, El Planeta’s designer. The image featured here is not the full, official cover, just a slightly-altered DS version of the PDF sent to press, designed to placate my control problem. El Planeta was gracious enough to credit me by name on the cover for the illo, but damnit — I want a modeling credit. No doubt so does the lovely Rachel Wentworth of Forty Winks, featured here as her Latina self, La Raquel Encabronada.
